" You gotta make yourself a student for whatever you want, and you gotta love it. "

- Jay Ellis, Actor

Black Panther Initiative

In 2018, Go for Yours raised $15,000 to send over 500 students to a private screening of the Marvel film Black Panther. The purpose of this fundraiser was to provide young people with a chance to see themselves depicted as strong, intelligent, and beautiful on the movie screen while simultaneously serving the youth and community.

Multiple celebrities, including actress/producer Lena Waithe (The Chi) and actor/comedian Lil Rel (Get Out), supported the efforts. Within five minutes of a retweet from actor/activist Jesse Williams garnered almost $1,000 in donations!

The Black Panther Initiative has motivated Go for Yours to identify films that portray people of color positively. We are looking forward to sending students to more private screenings in the future, including Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
